The UPA govt. has come up with the idea of having “Caste-Based” enumeration in the Census 2011, in principle. Is this what we wanted to witness in New India? Even older India was scared of endorsing this “Bhasmasur”, considering its aftermaths. Why time and again we are happy in creating these monumental blunders? Are we trying to push INDIA again into the Dark Age.
Is Congress defying Nehru, Sardar Patel and Ambedkar: A Flashback
What was the stand taken by the framers of the Constitution and the first Cabinet after Independence which had stalwarts like Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, B R Ambedkar and Maulana Azad decided to do away with caste-based census which was seen by them as divisive unanimously? They were the torch-bearers of Congress policy, which congress is still claiming. But is this what the new congress interprets? Are they sick and tired of Nehruvian school of thought? Is Sardar Patel, Baba Saheb Ambedkar and Maulana Saheb obsolete for Congress now? We need to get into the flashback to cross-check their stand.
This issue was first informally discussed in 1951 when Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was the Prime minister. Nehru took the view that the first census of independent India should not be caste-based. This will attack the very essence of Indian unity in later stages. The same was categorically specified by Sardar Patel.
This was revealed when a massive search was carried out in the cabinet secretariat archives after law minister Veerappa Moily wrote to Registrar General of India, asking whether there was a policy decision involved in not conducting a caste-based census.
In his speech of November 25, 1949, on his motion for the adoption of the Constitution, Dr B R Ambedkar observed: “I am of opinion that in believing that we are a nation, we are cherishing a great delusion. How can people be divided into several thousands of castes be a nation? These castes are anti-national: in the first place because they bring about separation in social life. They are anti-national also because they generate jealousy and antipathy between caste and caste. But we must overcome all these difficulties if we wish to become a nation in reality. For fraternity can be a fact only when there is a nation. Without fraternity, equality and liberty will be no deeper than coats of paint.”
Unfortunately, those who claim that they are carrying Baba Sahib’s legacy in this new India, are just destroying his vision. What have we achieved even after 63 yrs of independence? This is only the implication for putting pressure on the Supreme Court cap of 50% reservation, an extension of Vote Bank Politics. During the six decades of expected implementation of the Constitutional provisions the state and central governments have not devised mechanisms to review the impact of policies and programmes based on these provisions, which is sucking Indian integrity like anything. There has been only unending entry of castes into the reservation lists and no exit from them. The four Varnas has been transformed into thousand of castes and sub-castes. Everyone is ready to kill everyone to get their own pie. Unfortunately the poor section of this India has never seen this help extended to them in the name of reservation. The chaotic proliferation of judicial pronouncements has made the policies and programmes counter-productive. The logic is simple, these politicians want the exact number of caste-division, so that they can play and manipulate their power mathematics. This all development is leading towards a diabolic dimension
Caste census was avoided after Independence because there was a desire to look beyond social divisions which made the leadership struggle in its attempt to forge a united challenge to the British Raj. The advent of caste census in 1911 itself was a result of competing claims of divergent Muslim-Hindu interests as their population size would determine their representation in proposed bicameral legislatures.
Caste enumeration: A different perspective
Let’s contemplate this issue with a different perspective? Frankly speaking, this decision will destroy the CONCEPT of India, the concept which boasts off the idea of “Unity in Diversity”, the strength of Indian existence. This consensus is totally anti-constitutional. Our leaders are trying to break this unity at any cost in order to serve their vested interests.
I doubt if our leaders are trying to serve the purpose of China to split India into 20-30 nation-states. “Almost coinciding with the 13th round of Sino-Indian border talks (New Delhi, August 7-8, 2009), an article (in the Chinese language) has appeared in China captioned ‘If China takes a little action, the so-called Great Indian Federation can be broken up’ (Zhong Guo Zhan Lue Gang, www.iiss.cn, Chinese, August 8, 2009). Claiming that Beijing’s ‘China-Centric’ Asian strategy provides for splitting India, the writer of the article, Zhan Lue (strategy), has found that New Delhi’s corresponding ‘India-Centric’ policy in Asia is in reality a ‘Hindustan centric’ one. According to the article, if India today relies on anything for unity, it is the Hindu religion. The emergence of a republic of India in 1947 was based on religion [the Hindus were a majority so they should rule]. Adding that Hinduism is a decadent religion as it allows caste exploitation and is unhelpful to the country’s modernization, it described the Indian government as one in a dilemma with regard to eradication of the caste system as it realizes that the process to do away with castes may shake the foundation of the consciousness of the Indian nation.” Chennai Centre for China Studies came up with this report by translating and analyzing the Chinese website report.
China wants India to divide its Hindu population into different castes and sub-castes. This way they can weaken India without using any force and utilizing India’s own people working as Termites. What I intend here to explain is that knowingly or unknowingly Indian politicians across the party line are busy in helping China to break this country into different pieces so that India can be conquered again and again. They have become so blind in the need of power that they are not hesitating to commit this Monumental Blunder. Dividing Hindu society by stamping them as a particular caste FOREVER. Reminding them that they belong to a particular caste and they must remain in the same category forever. It is inimical for the dream of a casteless society.
Maoists-Naxalites want it because they want to topple-up the Govt. of India by 2050. They strive on caste and poverty. Again they are just playing as a pawn into the hands of China. Our politicians are making a beeline to extend their helping hands to add to their cause by breaking our unity.
In the midst of this intellectual bankruptcy regarding caste enumeration, there is a greater concern. Can citizens be forced by the state governments to declare the REAL CASTE if he/she does not choose to declare so? If it’s not declared willingly, can our government fix it?? Actor Amitabh Bachchan has already declared himself of “INDIAN CASTE”. Can state fix his caste? So this issue is already impregnated with ambiguity/uncertainty, then how can this government justify caste enumeration.
